Reaching your full potential
About the scheme
VT has over 14,000 employees but takes on only ten graduates a year. This means that as a graduate with VT you are uniquely placed at the heart of the business, in high profile roles, with real responsibility. The aim of our scheme is to create the future leaders of VT through experience and personal development.
The VT graduate scheme has two streams:-
Finance
Aimed at graduates with a finance-based degree, this three-year programme comprises of three, 12-month placements. During the scheme, graduates will work towards attaining their CIMA or ACCA accreditation.
Management
Open to all degrees but we particularly welcome applications from engineering graduates, this programme comprises of four, 6-month placements. Graduates then choose a discipline (for example Project Management, Purchasing & Supply Chain, HR, Business Development) and work towards a business-relevant postgraduate qualification.
Why join the VT graduate scheme?
If you are looking for variety then look no further. Our scheme is rotational which means you have the fantastic opportunity to do challenging placements in a number of different companies within the Group. This is a great opportunity to experience different locations within the UK and occasionally overseas, and will give you the chance to push yourself outside of your comfort zone in more ways than one.
Placements vary in length and every graduate's experience will be different. You can be sure that the placements will be real jobs that come with responsibility from day one. You will gain exposure to a number of areas across the diverse business network. This will help you eventually identify what future career you want to follow and which business you'd like to work in.
Your development
“Our success depends on the skills and knowledge of our people”
Each year the new graduate intake will undertake an induction tour together before starting in placements. Within a few weeks of starting you will attend a week long personal development training course with Outward Bound Professional which will help establish your strengths and development areas - as well as being a huge amount of fun!
Throughout the scheme, as you move through your various placements, you will attend various workshops to help you develop the skills valued and required in our future leaders. Towards the end of the scheme, we will help you find a suitable first management position. Even though you will have left the graduate scheme, your career will continue to be monitored and developed. You will be known as an individual and have plenty of opportunities to interact with senior management.
Leadership
Strong leadership is the cornerstone of any organisation’s success. We actively manage a pipeline of talent, identifying and developing our leaders and ensuring we maintain the right practices, skills and attributes to deliver into the future. As a graduate, you will be a vital part of this pipeline.
