Babcock has joined the MOD Logistic Network Enabled Capability
(Log NEC) Programme Green Box - a group of Tier 1 industry partners
that will help shape and implement the future MOD information
architecture for defence logistic support.
The Green Box aims to improve end-to-end logistics to the mutual
benefit of defence and industry, by incorporating Contractor
Logistics Support (CLS) information requirements into the Log NEC
Programme, to enable both defence and industry make better
decisions and reduce the cost of supporting air, land and maritime
platforms.
To achieve this, roles undertaken by the Green Box will include
helping to define information services and logistic support
requirements; assessing the current information architecture and
whether it will support future logistic support requirements;
proposing how the future information landscape should look;
providing best practice advice to defence (representing the
industry view, injecting new ideas, highlighting common problem
areas and providing input to relevant policies); and liaising
between subject matter experts in industry and defence to enable
detailed problem resolution.
As a result, long-term improvements to be derived will include
reduced cost (to defence and industry) of delivering CLS contracts
thanks to the captured information, and issues affecting CLS
delivery will be resolved more quickly and easily. Information
system capability will also be harmonised across platforms and
domains, and information management will be improved, increasing
the accuracy of fleet and asset management.
Babcock head of information and knowledge management, Chris
Rowley, commented: "We are very pleased to join the Green Box team.
Being a member allows Babcock to be an active participant in all
information management decisions that will affect future MOD
through-life support and CLS contracts. This work builds on the
activities we are already undertaking with the UK Council for
Electronic Business to help transform secure information sharing
across the defence acquisition and support lifecycle."
Industry players involved in the Green Box alongside the MOD
are: AgustaWestland, Babcock, BAE Systems, Boeing, General
Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, Rolls-Royce, Thales, and UK Council for
Electronic Business (UK CeB).
Brigadier Alan Clacher, Head of the Log NEC Programme, said: "I
am delighted that Babcock have joined the Green Box, as I believe
they have a significant amount to contribute to the vital role of
the Green Box team."
