Babcock has secured a competitively won contract to supply
environmental monitoring services to the Harwell and Winfrith
nuclear licensed sites.
Under the three-year contract, with two one-year extension
options, Babcock's Nuclear Environmental Laboratory (based at the
Westlakes Science and Technology Park near Whitehaven, Cumbria)
will be providing services to ensure that Research Sites
Restoration Ltd (RSRL) complies with the regulatory requirements
laid down by the Environment Agency for the operation of the
sites.
Babcock is responsible for the collection of a variety of sample
types from the environment on and around the Harwell and Winfrith
sites and their transportation to the company's environmental
laboratory at Westlakes, where the samples will be analysed for the
presence of radionuclides. Sample types include soil, vegetation,
milk, fish, rainwater, river water, low level liquid effluents, and
high volume air samples.
In securing this contract, Babcock's environmental laboratory
team is building on proven expertise in the field.
